Removal #
This was a painful process!
Removing the old beam was pretty easy.
- Remove the steering linkage
- Undo the steering shaft from the steering box.
- Remove the brake caliper
- Remove the speedometer cable
Cleanup #
Before installing the new beam, make sure to clean the mounting surface.
Installation #
Getting the 100+ pound beam up into place was the biggest challenge. I must have spent at least 4 hours trying to get it in place. The biggest issue was the weight distribution; I would slowly lift up one side but the other would fall. I ended up using a long 2x4 to help me lift it into place.
Issues #
Another issue was getting the top body mounts lined up correctly. I had to losen the steering box to get enough wiggle room to get the bolts in.
Next #
I should be getting the rear suspension in this week. After that I’ll be able to bleed the brakes and get her back on the road.
