Current State
#

I’ve had the beetle for almost a decade now. I purchased it from a friend that had it stock. I’ve done a few mods to it over the years.

  • 4" narrowed beam
  • Air shocks
  • Performance exhaust from Mexico
  • Empi sprintstars
  • New German running boards
  • LED headlights from https://vintagecarleds.com

Future State
#

Plans for the future include:

  • New probuilt stage 2 frontbeam from airkewld.com
  • EvaResto rear air suspension
  • Airlift 3p management
  • Full interior restoration
    • The current interior is the original and could use some TLC.
  • Full respray

Brakes
#

I also need to rebuild the braking system. The rear drums are in rough shape, the rear passenger cylinder started leaking. The car came equipped with disc brakes from the factory but the driver side caliper gets stuck sometimes and the rotors have some deep grooves.

Mexican Beetle Community
#

The hardest part about the Mexican beetle is finding parts that fit. I can get them from Antonio in Mexico but shipping can get expensive and it would just be easier to get parts from cip1.com or jbugs.com. I’ve been reading and ghia brakes should be a direct fit. I will likely buy rear brakes from a 73 beetle and rotors from a 71 ghia.

I will have posts for all of that work so stay tuned.
